Our verdict

The Stacking Music Set is five nesting wooden blocks, each with an instrument built in: a drum, a xylophone, a rattle, a scratch board and a mini gong, plus a drumstick that stores in the set. Hape lists it at $39.99 for ages 1 and up.

We found no owner reviews on Hape's page. The idea is to mix stacking and sound: toddlers can build the blocks up, then take them apart to play each one. Hape gives the size as about 5.4 x 4.8 x 4.9 inches and the weight as 2.48 pounds, and says it meets EN 71 and ASTM F963.

It suits a toddler's first band set that also packs away small. Skip it if you want a single, louder instrument such as a full drum, or a toy with recorded music.
