Our verdict

Smudge Elephant is a long, floppy Jellycat plush in soft taupe-gray fur that lies flat rather than sitting up. The Medium (SMG2EL) is $38 on Jellycat's US site and measures 4.3 x 5.1 x 9.4 inches. Jellycat lists it as suitable from birth and tested to EN71, ASTM and ISO 8124.

The page shows 269 reviews with a 5-star average. Owners mention how floppy and soft it is, and one said it is much fluffier in person than in photos. Several say they sleep with it every night. The Tiny size was out of stock when we checked; the Medium was available.

It suits babies, kids and adults who like a plush to drape or hug. Skip it if you want a toy that sits upright on a shelf, or one you can put in the dryer.
