Our verdict

This Kotobukiya kit reimagines Evangelion Unit-01 as Mechagodzilla from the 1974 film Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla, part of the Godzilla vs. Evangelion crossover. It stands 190 mm tall, and Kotobukiya pre-paints the armor in metallic silver, along with the eyes and head ducts. The mouth opens, the knee armor moves with the thigh, the neck joint lets it look up, and several hand parts are included. Kotobukiya US listed it at $65.99 and rates it 15 and up.

We found no owner reviews on Kotobukiya US or Gundam Planet. The pre-painted finish is the selling point, since metallic silver is hard to paint evenly by hand.

It suits a fan of both franchises who wants a striking shelf piece without painting. Skip it if you want the classic purple Unit-01 or a cheaper Eva figure; Yolopark's AMK EVA-01 is a pre-assembled option at $29.99.
