Our verdict

Fire Engine Rescue! is a Mudpuppy cooperative board game for 2 or more players aged 4 and up, listed at $24.99. Everyone works together to rescue kittens stuck in trees before the fire chief gets back to the station, while traffic light tiles can stop the trucks. It comes with a full-size board, 27 cards, 4 traffic light tiles, 4 kitten tiles, 2 wooden fire engine movers and a stand-up fire chief.

The kitten tiles slot into the backs of the wooden fire engines, which is a nice touch for small hands. Mudpuppy’s page has a single owner review, a 5-star note from a family who plays with a 2- and 4-year-old and liked the sturdy pieces and the team play.

It suits 4- and 5-year-olds just starting board games, especially kids who struggle with losing. Skip it for kids 6 and up; the game is simple and will not hold older players long.
