Our verdict

The 50 Unit Blocks set is PlanToys' plain rubberwood block set: 50 pieces in 12 shapes, finished without paint and made in Thailand with formaldehyde-free glue. PlanToys lists it at $89.99 for ages 18 months and up, and it showed as in stock when we checked.

PlanToys' page shows four reviews averaging 3.3 out of 5. One owner chose these over painted blocks and liked the smooth edges; another said a 3-year-old and an 18-month-old both play with them. The most detailed review compares it with an older PlanToys unit set and lists many half-size and stubby pieces, such as 8 cubes and 8 half-pillars, with only 6 full units.

It suits families who want unpainted blocks for open play with toddlers and preschoolers. Skip it if you want a classic unit-block mix with many long units for big towers, or if you would rather pay less per block.
