LEGO Harry Potter Sets: What to Buy by Age and Budget
38 current LEGO Harry Potter sets sorted by age and price, which ones connect into the modular Hogwarts Castle, and which are retiring, checked in October 2026.
- Ages 7+
- $14.99–$469.99
- Researched
Buy by age first, then decide whether you are starting the Hogwarts Castle. For ages 7 to 9, a $14.99 to $34.99 set with two to four minifigures is the right size, and the $14.99 Flying Ford Anglia is the easiest yes. From 10, the modular Hogwarts sections take over: seven sets on LEGO’s US store in October 2026 connect into one castle, with the $259.99 Main Tower as the centerpiece. Adults who want one big display should compare Diagon Alley, the Collectors’ Editions and the 6,020-piece Hogwarts Castle (71043), which is a different, smaller-scale model.
What LEGO Harry Potter sets can you buy in 2026?
LEGO has made Harry Potter sets on and off since the first film. Brickset’s Harry Potter theme pages list sets from 2001 through 2011, with some gap years, then none from 2012 to 2017 before the line returned in 2018. Brickset counts 24 Harry Potter sets released in 2026 so far, the most in any year.
On Oct 7, 2026, LEGO’s US Harry Potter listing showed 38 building sets, plus plush, keychains and books we left out. Prices ran from $14.99 to $469.99, and age marks from 7+ to 18+. We review four of them in full, plus two non-LEGO Harry Potter builds. Every price below is LEGO’s US list price when we checked; retailers often discount, so treat these as ceilings.
Bottom line: 38 sets are on sale, the widest range the theme has had, so start with the child’s age and the space you have.
Which sets suit ages 7 to 9?

Flying Ford Anglia (76424), a 7+ set with Harry, Ron, Hedwig and Scabbers.
These are short builds with play features and minifigures. Minifigure counts are from Brickset.
| Set | Price | Pieces | Age | Minifigs | Who it suits | Skip it if |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hogwarts Castle: Sorting Hat Ceremony (76460) | $14.99 | 124 | 7+ | 4 | The cheapest way into the modular castle | You need it now; LEGO says it ships by Oct 16 |
| Flying Ford Anglia (76424) | $14.99 | 165 | 7+ | 2 | A first set with Harry and Ron | You own the older Privet Drive set with the car |
| Fawkes, Dumbledore’s Phoenix (76448) | $22.99 | 299 | 8+ | 0 | A creature build; on sale at $16.09 and retiring soon | Your child wants minifigures |
| Hagrid & Harry’s Privet Drive Escape (76459) | $19.99 | 124 | 8+ | 4 | Four figures for $19.99 | You want a building to play in |
| Hogwarts Castle: Charms Class (76442) | $19.99 | 204 | 8+ | 3 | A small classroom that connects to the castle | You need it after 2026; it’s retiring soon |
| Cornish Pixie (76461) | $29.99 | 320 | 8+ | 0 | Fans who like posable characters | Your child wants minifigures |
| Dobby the Free Elf (76469) | $29.99 | 379 | 8+ | 0 | Dobby fans; a figure for a shelf | You want play features |
| Forbidden Forest: Expecto Patronum (76475) | $34.99 | 244 | 7+ | 4 | Prisoner of Azkaban fans | You want a castle section |
| Hogwarts Castle: Herbology Class (76445) | $49.99 | 390 | 8+ | 3 | A greenhouse that connects to the castle | You need it in 2027; Brickset lists a Dec 31, 2026 exit |
| Knight Bus Adventure (76446) | $49.99 | 499 | 8+ | 4 | A vehicle with a story, rated 4.7 on LEGO.com | Your child prefers castle play |
The Flying Ford Anglia, a $14.99 first Harry Potter set with Harry and Ron, is the one we’d hand most 7-year-olds. Brickset’s review notes it is the first version LEGO has sold on its own, that Harry and Ron finally sit side by side, and that the doors, roof and trunk open. The downsides it found are tight elbow room for the minifigures and sticker number plates.
The Cornish Pixie is a different kind of set. LEGO calls it a 1:1 scale pixie, over 9 in. (24 cm) tall on a clear stand, with a posable head, arms and fingers, a Lockhart book and a spilling ink bottle.
There are no minifigures, so it suits a fan who likes display pieces more than playsets. For more picks across LEGO lines at this age, see our toys for ages 6 to 8.
Bottom line: For play, the Ford Anglia or Charms Class. For a shelf piece, the Cornish Pixie or Dobby.
Which sets suit ages 10 to 12?

Thestral Family (76458): two posable creatures, no minifigures, retiring soon.
At 10, LEGO’s Harry Potter range opens up into bigger playsets with five to 14 minifigures, plus creature builds.
| Set | Price | Pieces | Age | Minifigs | Who it suits | Skip it if |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mini Hogwarts Castle (40975) | $39.99 | 700 | 10+ | 1 | A whole small castle for under $40 | You want room-by-room play |
| Norbert: Hagrid’s Baby Dragon (76477) | $49.99 | 482 | 9+ | 0 | Creature fans; rated 5 on LEGO.com | You want minifigures |
| Cauldron: Secret Potions Classroom (76464) | $59.99 | 652 | 10+ | 2 | A potions room inside a cauldron | You want a castle section |
| Thestral Family (76458) | $69.99 | 548 | 10+ | 0 | Posable creatures for a bedroom shelf | You want figures; it’s also retiring soon |
| Hogwarts Castle: Flying Lessons (76447) | $79.99 | 651 | 9+ | 7 | Seven figures and a castle section | You need it in 2027; Brickset lists a Dec 31, 2026 exit |
| Luna Lovegood’s House (76467) | $89.99 | 764 | 10+ | 5 | Luna fans; retiring soon | You need it now; “Will ship in 60 days” |
| Privet Drive: Aunt Marge’s Visit (76451) | $89.99 | 639 | 8+ | 6 | A funny scene with six figures; retiring soon | You need it now; “Will ship in 60 days” |
| Hogwarts Castle: Hospital Wing (76463) | $99.99 | 907 | 9+ | 7 | A big castle section with seven figures | You’re not building the castle |
| Quality Quidditch Supplies & Ice Cream Parlour (76452) | $99.99 | 795 | 8+ | 7 | Diagon Alley fans on a smaller budget; retiring soon | You own the 18+ Diagon Alley |
| Knockturn Alley Wizarding Shops (76471) | $119.99 | 788 | 8+ | 8 | Eight figures and dark-side shops | You need it before Oct 24 |
| Book Nook: Dumbledore’s Office (76478) | $129.99 | 1,182 | 10+ | 2 | A bookshelf display for a reader | You want a toy to play with |
| Hogwarts Castle: The Main Tower (76454) | $259.99 | 2,135 | 10+ | 12 | The centerpiece of the modular castle | Your shelf is under 27 in. tall |
| Hogwarts Castle: East Wing (76473) | $269.99 | 2,164 | 10+ | 14 | The biggest cast in the range | You need it now; “Will ship in 60 days” |
The Thestral Family builds an adult and a baby Thestral with posable heads, wings and legs; the adult has fabric wings. Brickset members rated it 3.8 from eight ratings, lower than most sets here, and LEGO marks it retiring soon, so it suits a creature fan more than a general Harry Potter gift. The Main Tower is covered in the next section.
Bottom line: For a 10-year-old who plays, Flying Lessons or Hospital Wing. For one who displays, Norbert or the Thestral Family.
Which sets connect into the modular Hogwarts Castle?

The Main Tower (76454) opened up. Its rooms include Fluffy’s trapdoor and the Grand Staircase.
LEGO now sells Hogwarts as a castle you assemble from separate sets. Brickset’s page for the Main Tower lists 12 sets it “Connects with.” Six of those were on LEGO’s US store in October 2026; the rest have retired.
| Set | Price | Minifigs | On LEGO’s US store? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hogwarts Castle: The Main Tower (76454) | $259.99 | 12 | Yes |
| Hogwarts Castle: Sorting Hat Ceremony (76460) | $14.99 | 4 | Yes |
| Hogwarts Castle: Charms Class (76442) | $19.99 | 3 | Yes, retiring soon |
| Hogwarts Castle: Herbology Class (76445) | $49.99 | 3 | Yes |
| Hogwarts Castle: Flying Lessons (76447) | $79.99 | 7 | Yes |
| Hogwarts Castle: Hospital Wing (76463) | $99.99 | 7 | Yes |
| Hogwarts Castle: East Wing (76473) | $269.99 | 14 | Yes, ships in 60 days |
| 40770, 76426, 76430, 76431, 76435, 76441 | Retired | Not listed |
The Main Tower stands over 26.5 in. (67 cm) high and 14 in. (36 cm) wide, with 12 minifigures plus Fluffy, Hedwig and Fawkes and 6 of 14 collectible portraits.
Its functions include Fluffy’s trapdoor, Devil’s Snare, the Flying Keys and a swiveling Grand Staircase, and the Flying Keys and Wizard Chess rooms lift out for play. We found no owner reviews yet, so we can’t report on sturdiness.
Space is the problem owners raise most. In an r/lego thread on displaying the sectional castle, one owner who tried connecting every set said it nearly took over a room’s floor and “gets so long so fast”; they ended up building sections of three or four sets. Another keeps theirs on top of a dining room hutch. A new collector in a 2026 thread on starting the castle was told retired sections can be found secondhand on BrickLink or eBay, at a price.
Bottom line: Start with the Main Tower or a $14.99 to $19.99 classroom, measure your shelf, and buy retiring sections first.
Should you buy the 6,020-piece Hogwarts Castle instead?
Maybe, if you want one finished castle rather than a growing set. LEGO sells three whole-castle models, and they are not built at the same scale as the modular sections.
| Set | Price | Pieces | Age | Size per Brickset | Note |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mini Hogwarts Castle (40975) | $39.99 | 700 | 10+ | 5.5 x 6.75 x 4.75 in. | New; rated 4.9 |
| Hogwarts Castle and Grounds (76419) | $169.99 | 2,660 | 18+ | 8.25 x 13.75 x 9.9 in. | Temporarily out of stock; Brickset exit Dec 31, 2026 |
| Hogwarts Castle (71043) | $469.99 | 6,020 | 16+ | 22.9 x 27.1 x 16.9 in. | 2018 set, still on sale |
Owners help with the scale question. In an r/lego thread asking whether 71043 matches the modular sections, a builder said the individual sections have more detail and that 71043 is built at a smaller-than-minifigure scale. The person asking decided a single whole castle suited them better than collecting sections. If your fan wants to play inside rooms with minifigures, choose the modular sets; if they want the whole silhouette on one shelf, choose 71043 or the $169.99 Castle and Grounds.
Bottom line: Modular sections for play and a growing castle; 71043 for one complete display.
Which LEGO Harry Potter sets are for adults?
LEGO’s 18+ and 14+ Harry Potter sets are display pieces with adult pricing. The 18+ mark tells you the audience, not that the steps are too hard for a careful teen.
| Set | Price | Pieces | Age | Minifigs | Note |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hogwarts House Crest (76462) | $49.99 | 545 | 12+ | 0 | Wall or shelf crest |
| Enchanted Flying Ford Anglia (76470) | $79.99 | 868 | 14+ | 0 | Display car; retiring soon |
| Hogwarts Herbology Plants (76474) | $99.99 | 817 | 12+ | 0 | Brick-built magical plants for display |
| Sorcerer’s Stone – Collectors’ Edition (76466) | $169.99 | 1,571 | 18+ | 3 | 2026 Collectors’ Edition |
| Diagon Alley Wizarding Shops (76444) | $199.99 | 2,750 | 18+ | 12 | About 34.6 in. long per Brickset |
| Hogsmeade Village – Collectors’ Edition (76457) | $399.99 | 3,228 | 18+ | 12 | Rated 4.0 on LEGO.com |
| The Ministry of Magic – Collectors’ Edition (76476) | $449.99 | 3,491 | 18+ | 15 | New; rated 3.8 on LEGO.com |
Diagon Alley gives the most for the money here: 12 minifigures and 2,750 pieces for $199.99, and Brickset lists it at about 88 cm (34.6 in.) long, so plan a long shelf. The Burrow Collectors’ Edition (76437) showed as sold out and retiring soon when we checked. For other adult-focused LEGO lines, our LEGO sets by age guide covers where Harry Potter sits next to Icons and Ideas.
Bottom line: Diagon Alley is the adult pick; the Collectors’ Editions are for fans with space and a big budget.
Are there Harry Potter building kits besides LEGO?

UGears’ wooden Hogwarts Express runs on a wind-up spring motor.
Two non-LEGO builds stand out for older fans, and we review both.
- **UGears Harry Potter Hogwarts Express ($109.99, 14+):** a 504-part wooden kit with a locomotive, tender and carriage, a wind-up spring motor and about 7 hours of assembly. UGears says it travels about 4 m with both cars on a smooth floor. It suits a teen or adult who wants a long, mechanical build. Skip it for a younger child or a short project.
- **Thames & Kosmos Harry Potter Magic Wands ($34.95, 8+):** a craft kit to file, sculpt and paint replicas of Harry’s, Voldemort’s and Dumbledore’s wands. It suits an 8- to 12-year-old who likes making things. Skip it if they want a ready-made wand.
LEGO also lists two Harry Potter BrickHeadz sets: Luna Lovegood & Thestral Figures (40802, $24.99, retiring soon) and The Goblet of Fire Figures (40791, $49.99, retiring soon).
Bottom line: For a 14+ fan who has plenty of LEGO, the UGears train is a different kind of build; for an 8-year-old crafter, the wand kit.
Which LEGO Harry Potter sets are retiring soon?
LEGO’s US store marked these Harry Potter sets “Retiring soon” on Oct 7, 2026: Fawkes, Charms Class, Thestral Family, Enchanted Flying Ford Anglia, Privet Drive: Aunt Marge’s Visit, Luna Lovegood’s House, Quality Quidditch Supplies, Book Nook: Hogwarts Express (sold out), The Burrow (sold out) and both BrickHeadz sets. Brickset lists Dec 31, 2026 exit dates for several more, including Herbology Class, Flying Lessons and Hogwarts Castle and Grounds.
LEGO doesn’t post firm end dates, and its Retiring soon page changes as stock runs down. If you’re collecting the modular castle, prioritize Charms Class, Herbology Class and Flying Lessons, since missing sections cost more secondhand.
Bottom line: Buy retiring castle sections this season. Creature and display sets are less urgent unless they’re the gift.
