Our verdict

The Main Tower is the centerpiece of LEGO's modular Hogwarts Castle sets: 2,135 pieces for ages 10+, standing over 26.5 in. (67 cm) high and 14 in. (36 cm) wide. Functions include a trapdoor out of Fluffy's room, trigger-activated Devil's Snare, a Flying Keys function and a swiveling Grand Staircase up to Dumbledore's office. The Flying Keys and Wizard Chess rooms in the rocky base lift out for play. It has 12 minifigures, among them Harry, Hermione, Neville, Dumbledore and Nearly Headless Nick, plus Fluffy, Hedwig, Fawkes and 6 of 14 collectible portraits.

We found no owner reviews yet: Brickset had no member written reviews and no staff review when we checked, and we could not read customer reviews on LEGO.com. The one outside opinion we read is a BrickNerd guest article on LEGO animals, whose author rates this set's Fluffy as the strongest of LEGO's three versions, with a molded body and jaws that snap, though the teeth look a bit like a raptor's. Brickset lists 12 other sets this tower connects with.

It suits an older child or adult fan who is collecting the Hogwarts Castle sections and has room for a tall display. Skip it if you want a complete castle in one box, since this is one section of a larger build sold in separate sets.
