Our verdict

The DUPLO Brick Box 10913 is LEGO's open-ended starter set for toddlers 1½ and up. The 65 pieces include number bricks, flowers, chairs, a car and DUPLO figures, plus a simple guide with build ideas, and everything packs back into the plastic storage box. LEGO lists it at $29.99, and it was available on LEGO.com when we checked.

LEGO.com showed 18 reviews averaging 4.9 out of 5. Owners who bought it themselves describe an 18-month-old learning to press bricks together, a 2-year-old stacking tall towers and pushing the car, and the box doubling as storage. A grandparent with a 2- and 3-year-old liked the variety but said there are not enough pieces to build everything in the booklet at once, and one parent was disappointed by the brick mix.

It suits a first set for a toddler, and it works with every other DUPLO set later. Skip it if you want a themed playset with a story, or if your child is past the stacking stage; a larger themed DUPLO set will hold their interest longer.

Paraphrased from public owner reviews. Each one links to where it was posted.

Positive
Worried an 18-month-old was too young, the owner watched him work out how to press the bricks together and build a wobbly 2x2 tower.

Mixed
Bought for a 2- and 3-year-old: simple designs with enough variety and a case with room for more, but kids need guidance and there are not enough pieces to build everything in the booklet.
LEGO.com customer reviewJan 4, 2022
Positive
A 2-year-old builds tall towers with the square bricks and pushes the little car around with the figures inside.
