Snap Circuits Jr. is Elenco’s starter electronics kit for ages 8 and up, sold on Elenco’s store for $52.99. It has 30 parts mounted on plastic modules that snap onto a clear base grid, and a picture manual with more than 100 projects such as a flying fan, a siren and a light-controlled alarm. It needs two AA batteries, sold separately.

On Best Buy it averages 4.8 from 345 reviews. Parents say kids around 6 to 9 can follow the picture instructions mostly on their own and then make up their own circuits. The complaints we read are about a few parts breaking early and kids losing interest once the book is done.

It suits a curious 8-year-old, or a younger child with an adult nearby. Skip it if your child already has a Snap Circuits set; the larger SC-300 Classic includes all of these projects and 200 more.
